Brighton Optimist Club

Welcome

Optimist Clubs are chartered to serve the youth of their communities. Sometimes that can be a pretty large area. Most Clubs participate in Optimist International's signature programs like the Oratorical Contest, which provides young people the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills and a chance to win college scholarships; the new Internet Safety Program, designed to inform both young people and their parents of potential online dangers and offering safe practice tips while online; and the Childhood Cancer Campaign, created in 2001 to be "the leading force to rid the world of childhood cancer"; Clubs also conduct their own local service programs.

Please contact the Brighton Optimist Club at info@BrightonOptimist.org.

Meetings

The Brighton Optimist Club meets every Thursday morning at 7:30am at the Bauery Restaurant , 4141 Bauer Rd, Brighton 48116. We have speakers of general interest the first three weeks, and a Club Business Meeting on the last Thursday of each month.  Buffet breakfast is $7. First time visitors eat for free.

Update

We are actively planning many events, including the next Camel Races (Feb. 2011). We are always looking for new members to help with youth activities and fundraising efforts.  Come check us out!

Recent Activity

We were very proud to induct Karla Griscom into our Club on 8/26.  Welcome, Karla!  We are looking forward to working with you and having fun with you.  Thank you for your enthusiasm and energy.  We are also looking forward to three new members joining including John Noss, Kathryn Bonk and Alyssa Magid - bringing us to 9 New Members this year!

We were also incredibly pleased to announce that our own nominee, Bob Smith, was awarded the title of Michigan District Optimist of the Year at the 4th Quarter District Conference!  Bob has done an enormous amount of work for our Club, our Zone and our District.  He has lived the Optimist Creed in his giving and caring for others and in providing service to the youth of our community.  We can't think of anyone else who has come close to earning this honor!  Bob, we are so proud of you - thank you for all you have given to the Club at all levels and to our community as a whole.

The Brighton Optimist Club was awarded a Banner Patch for having contributed $365 (a dollar a day) to the OI Foundation.

The Brighton Optimist Club donated $188 worth of fishing poles to Heavner Canoe Rentals to promote "No Child Left Inside".

The Bike Decorating Contest was another huge success with 35 kids participating.  Many thanks to the Lynch and Sons Funeral Directors.

The Brighton Optimist Club’s 24th Annual Free Fishing Derby For Kids was a huge success with 280 registered anglers. We thank our sponsors for helping us to provide a fun-filled day of activity for the local youth.
